BARELY HAIR
PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL
Are Electrologists Licensed in Texas?
No. Texas does not currently regulate or license electrologists. There is no state-issued electrology license in Texas.
Because there is no licensing requirement, it is important for consumers to ask about an electrologist's training, experience, sanitation procedures, and years in practice before beginning treatment.
At Barely Hair, we believe in complete transparency and are always happy to answer questions about our training, experience, and treatment process.
How do I choose an Electrologist?
Choosing an electrologist is an important decision. Because Texas does not currently license electrologists, we encourage prospective clients to consider the following:
• Years of experience
• Professional training and mentorship
• Sanitation and infection-control procedures
• Client reviews and testimonials
• Consultation process and treatment planning
• Quality of equipment used
An experienced electrologist should be able to explain the treatment process, provide realistic expectations, and answer your questions with confidence.
At Barely Hair, we welcome questions and believe educated clients make confident decisions.

What is Electrolysis Hair Removal and how does it work?
Electrolysis is the only FDA-recognized method of permanent hair removal. Unlike laser hair removal, which permanently reduces hair growth, electrolysis permanently destroys the cells responsible for hair growth, making it effective for all hair colors, all skin tones, and every hair type, including gray, blonde, red, and white hair.
During treatment, a new sterile, single-use disposable probe is gently inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle. A precise electrical current is delivered to permanently destroy the hair growth cells without damaging the surrounding skin. The treated hair is then carefully removed with tweezers.
Because hair grows in different cycles, only hairs that are actively growing can be permanently treated during each visit. For this reason, multiple treatments are necessary to achieve permanent hair removal.
At Barely Hair, we use the advanced Apilus xCell Pro electrolysis system to provide comfortable, effective treatments tailored to each client's unique hair growth pattern and skin type. Every client receives a brand-new sterile, single-use disposable probe, and we follow hospital-grade infection control practices that meet or exceed Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) requirements.
Founder Elizabeth Casillas has more than 14yrs of Electrolysis experienced believes in educating clients is just as important as performing the treatment. We take the time to answer every question so our clients feel informed and confident before beginning treatment.
Does electrolysis really provide permanent hair removal?
Yes. Electrolysis is recognized by the FDA as the only method of permanent hair removal. While multiple treatments are required because hair grows in cycles, once a hair follicle has been successfully treated, it will not produce another hair.
What Is the Difference Between Electrolysis and Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction, while electrolysis provides permanent hair removal.
Electrolysis works on all skin tones and all hair colors, including blonde, gray, white, and red hair. Laser hair removal is often less effective on lighter hair colors because it relies on pigment within the hair follicle.
Many clients choose electrolysis to permanently eliminate the remaining hair that laser treatments could not successfully remove.
Can Electrolysis Remove Blonde, Gray, White, and Red Hair?
Yes. Electrolysis is effective on all hair colors and all skin tones. Unlike laser hair removal, which relies on pigment within the hair follicle, electrolysis can permanently remove blonde, gray, white, and red hair.
What is the difference between electrolysis and thermolysis, and is thermolysis permanent?
Electrolysis is the only FDA-recognized method of permanent hair removal. It includes three treatment modalities: thermolysis, galvanic, and blend. Thermolysis is not a separate hair removal treatment—it is one of the methods used in electrolysis.
Thermolysis uses high-frequency radio waves to generate heat that destroys the cells responsible for hair growth within the follicle. When performed correctly and each hair is treated during its active growth stage, thermolysis provides permanent hair removal. Because hair grows in cycles, multiple treatments are necessary to permanently treat all follicles.
At Barely Hair, we specialize exclusively in thermolysis. Although our Apilus xCell Pro electrolysis system is capable of performing all three electrolysis modalities, we have chosen to focus on thermolysis because it allows us to provide efficient, precise treatments while delivering the permanent hair removal results electrolysis is known for. Because thermolysis is the modality used during your treatments at Barely Hair, you may hear the terms "electrolysis" and "thermolysis" used together. Thermolysis is simply the technique we use to perform electrolysis. During your consultation, we evaluate your hair type, skin, and treatment area to create a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
